Boy Scout Troop 111

Gatlinburg, Tenn.

Gatlinburg Troop 111 is nestled in the Heart of the Great Smoky Mountains.  With over 50 years of tradition our troop is strong and stable.  We are proud to be sponsored by the Gatlinburg Rotary Club.  We participate in some type of activity every month including the Spring & Fall Camporee and a week long Summer Camp.  We also have begun a tradition of sending our Seasoned Scouts to one of the 3 High Adventure bases every summer.

We meet on Mondays at the Scout Hut in Mynatt park at 7:00.  We try to finish around 8:30 (depending on how much fun we are having it’s not always Guaranteed).  We also have occasional Patrol Leader Council Meeting through the week.  In meetings we prepare for upcoming outings, practice scouting skills, work on Merit Badges and implement Leadership Skills, which help the boys mature on their trail to Eagle.

Troop 111 is a Boy-Run Troop.  It was Baden Powell’s Philosophy the Troop should be run for the Boys by the Boys.  The scouts decide were we are going, what we’re going to do, and how we will get it done.  Operate based on the Patrol Method with a hierarchy of Leadership.  They are organized by Age, Tenure, Advancement and Experience.  We provide the boys with a Junior Leadership Program to give them the tools to do the Job.

We have an active Troop Committee (made up of Adults) which meets once a month.  They help us with transportation, planning and chaperones on trips.  They also provide an outside voice for identifying issue and which we may not see.
